Watch and pray

Which type of person are you? Fix and pray, or watch and pray?

Think about how you handle frustrating situations or unexpected heartaches. You have a close friend that is choosing poor choices that will defile her marriage. Your adult kid is making decisions that are contrary to biblical teaching. Money is tight and your commitment to your husband and family is to be a stay-at-home mom. The relationships in your extended family are fragmented with no easy answers to the problem. The question is do you fix and pray or watch and pray?

It is easier to fix a situation than to be patient and watch. To fix something is to be proactive. A fixer enjoys moving into action and solving the problem. A fix likes to “fix and move on.” Sometimes a fixer does not want to feel pain and hurt. If the problem is fixed then we don’t have to think about it anymore. I remember working with a woman whose husband had an affair. This woman just wanted her husband back under her roof and then everything would be back to normal... except his heart. The fixer may want the circumstance to be fixed but the heart has not changed or healed.
