Taking my life back one inch at a time

After three years, when I was going through a variety of losses where I literally had the rug taken out under my feet, I made a decision to take my life back. It may be an “inch at a time” but it will happen. It is a choice I am making. I pronounced it today.

Where did this thought come from? I watched a Laker basketball motivational video on youtube and it powerfully describes in a game that one wins “one inch at a time.” “We can stay here and get the (blank) kicked out of us or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of a pit (my paraphrase) one inch at a time.” “Life is a game of inches.”

What does that mean in the Christian walk? How is a Christian to win “one inch at a time?” “How is it we can “fight our way back to the light?”

Earlier today I read Psalm 18:28-30 and it is reflective of how a Christian can win “one inch at a time” and how we can “fight our way back to the light.”

Psalm 18:28-30 says,

“For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness.
For by you I can run against a troop and by my God, I can leap over a wall.

This God -- his way is perfect; the Word of the Lord proves true;
he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.”

What do these verses tell us about taking our lives back an inch at a time?

The Lord is our light.
With God, I can run against the troop.
God’s way is perfect.
